Overview of the Siha District

Date Published:
February 28, 2008

The Siha District was formed in 2005.

It is an area of great beauty being located on the high plateau [from 5000’ to 6000’] between Mt. Kilimanjaro [20,000’] and Mt. Meru [15,000’] both of which are national parks.

It is comprised primarily of rural, agricultural communities, with a total population of about 125,000 people. The climate is moderate with temperatures ranging from the low 80’s during the day to the mid 60’s at night.

The people are warm and friendly. The children are curious but respectful. It is very safe to walk in all areas at any time of day or night.

Kilimanjaro International Airport is a 20 minute drive. Moshi, a half hour away, has a first class hospital.

Ecotourism options include Ndarakwai Ranch, a 12,000 acre private conservation preserve in the north portion of the district, and the National Parks of Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti all within in a day’s drive from the District.
